The Hydrogen Epoch of Reionization Array (HERA) is a radio interferometer dedicated to measuring the power spectrum of the 21 cm line emission from the Epoch of Reionization. The collaboration has published several upper-limit measurements from the data taken with a partially-constructed array, as it is being built out towards completion near at the SKA South Africa site. To ensure that no unaccounted systematics can influence these results, validation of the analysis pipeline via mock data is strongly emphasised. We give an overview of the validation of the HERA software pipeline, including the development of software tools, generation of mock data, and a series of modular tests being deployed that builds up to an end-to-end simulation. Particular focus will be given to the discussion of VisCPU, a matrix-based, GPU implemented, visibility simulator used for generating the mock data, and lessons learned from the simulation.
