The Instruments Division (INS) develops many tools to support the science community. Before offering them, we ensure these tools are compliant, robust, and maintainable. A small group of software engineers in INS, working alongside instrument scientists, maintain and bring them up to the expected standards for all software. To ensure efficient collaboration and work relationships, all software engineers and technical staff go through division-wide onboard training to gain experience with all our missions and software. This allows them to better understand requirements; however, now we have too many tools to maintain. We are looking for better ways to organize all this work, how we manage it, and how we can leverage the software development expertise of all our technical staff. We are also looking for ways to train scientists to work efficiently with these groups so we can continue developing more tools while still maintaining those currently offered.
